Working on now. 🛠️

major feature

Tailored pricing rewards consumers that stick to your brand and offers an opportunity to increase conversion.

In-app store inventory & availability

Customers want to shop, wear, and live your brand, regardless of the channel. NewStore empowers omnichannel user journeys. We are integrating store inventory & availability in the Shopping App to drive customers to your stores, enable self-service endless aisle.

Your brand will acquire new users, online and offline, thanks to a more convenient and personal experience tailored to your customers’ buying behaviour.

major feature

Custom segments

Brands in every industry are doubling down on personalization. Consumers look for experiences tailored to their needs. In Q4, we look deeper into personalization by expanding capabilities to custom segments. This will enable a new level of user experience that will bring brands and consumers even closer. You will be able to create and display content tailored for a user segment and show what is most desirable to them.

discovery

In-store self-checkout (MVP)

Stores get busy during peak seasons, weekends, and discounts. Brands miss out on revenues when store associates cannot cope with the volume of customers. Your native Shopping App is the perfect candidate to make self-checkout available in your stores bridging a personal digital experience with an engaging in-store journey. It will unlock new sales and improve conveniency.

discovery

In-store app discoverability & promotion

The Shopping App is the digital flagship store of your brand always in the pocket of your customers. Moreover, it enhances the in-store experience as well. Customers can check product details, always bring order details with them, and show their membership card at light speed. Plus, it enables your brand to stay connected even on the lock screen with push notifications. This quarter, we investigate solutions to highlight app and mini apps in-store, drive app downloads, and create new brand super fans.

discovery

<span data-metadata=""><span data-buffer="">In-app clienteling (foundations)

To tailor products, experiences, and services, brands must know their customers inside-out. NewStore offers clienteling and remote selling capabilities for improving customer relationships, intelligence, and lifetime value.

This quarter, we build the foundations to bring clienteling capabilities to the Shopping App and increase data collection and opt-in rates.

Launched and scaling. 🚀

major feature

Express Checkout with Apple Pay

Once shoppers fall in love with your products, they look for the fastest path to complete the purchase. Now users can directly checkout from the Product Detail View using Apple Pay. It allows users to skip the cart, avoid distractions, and leverage pre-filled data in their Wallet. Ultimately leading to less friction, immediate purchases, and more first-time buyers.

major feature

In-app store inventory & availability

Customers want to shop, wear, and live your brand, regardless of the channel. NewStore empowers omnichannel user journeys. We are integrating store inventory & availability in the Shopping App to drive customers to your stores, enable self-service endless aisle.

Your brand will acquire new users, online and offline, thanks to a more convenient and personal experience tailored to your customers’ buying behaviour.

major feature

Store Availability on Product Detail View on iOS

With NewStore, you make sure your users get the product they fall in love with, whether it is available online or in-store. Now, users on iOS can check if a product is available in their favorite store directly in the product description and decide to pick it up right away.

major feature

Bookmark Favorite Store

Stores create a deep connection with customers and offer an engaging brand experience. Users can bookmark their favorite store in the app. The bookmarked store is currently used to display store availability directly on the Product Detail View and give priority in the list and during the buy online pick-up in-store journey. This fosters the relationship between shoppers and stores, and digital and physical for a seamless omnichannel experience.

major feature

Segmented homewall (logged-in & guests)

The Homewall is the main landing page of the app funnelling customers to selected categories or views. We will make Homewalls more personal by building the foundations to support customer segments and display different content based on a user segment or state. For example, you will be able to display a tile only for logged-in customers.

major feature

In-Store Shopper Identification

On the way to enable the best omnichannel experience for your brand, we gradually want to blend the world of online and offline shopping. The Shopping App hosts your most loyalty customers. We will work to make ensure your Store Associates can identify quickly, easily and service at their best your consumers through the membership card in the Shopping App.

major feature

Push notifications analytics

Push notifications are one of the unique benefits of having a consumer app. No other channel can interact in real-time directly on your users' lock-screen. Previously, essential statistics were added to Studio under the Notifications Manager. We are working on improving our capability of push notification analytics to ensure your brand can generate a higher business impact through this functionality and our platform.

major feature

Product Personalization via App Extensions (MVP)

Consumers demand more and more personalised products and experiences. To ensure your brand can capture this opportunity, we will work on enabling product personalisation through App Extensions. Consequently, your users will be able to provide custom attributes to a product and your brand will be able to co-create with its audience.

Major feature

Feature A/B Testing

A/B testing is an insightful practice in software development when used correctly. In Q3, we will provide guidance to operate A/B testing on our platform. You will be able to run a set of test independently and validate the conversion uplift for specific features.

studio

Rebranding & Code Review

Studio is the visual and intuitive Content Management System for your Shopping App. We started to rebrand Studio with a modern NewStore UI. Plus, we are actively working to improve our code base, leading to performance, scalability and reliability improvements. Now, Studio runs entirely on React for a smoother and faster experience.

REfinement

Advanced App Extensions (improvements)

App Extensions provide essential extensibility to your app. We recently worked on an advanced version of this technology capable of triggering native app functionalities. Now, we want to iterate on the project and investigate using App Extensions for more use cases and in new areas of the app. The goal is to empower your brand by providing all the functionalities you need and more personalized content to your most loyal customers, the app users.

refinement

Personal Header on Android

The Personal Header is a warm welcome from your brand to your customers and provides quick access to the account tab to retrieve loyalty and order information. It contains a welcoming message that suits the time of day and the user avatar. Widely adopted amongst our customers, you can display the Personal Header on the Homewall when a customer is logged in on both Android and iOS.

infrastructure

Google Analytics 4 migration

We continue our efforts in building our data warehouse to make data more accessible and reliable. During Q2, we successfully migrated all customers to Google Analytics 4 for an up-to-date data experience.

refinement

Video for Brand Stories

We recently released Brand Stories, an immersive feature that enables you to share your brand stories via a full-screen experience. Now, we are working to add video support to Brand Stories and make this feature even more engaging.

major feature

Dynamic free shipping message

The cart is the perfect view to engage with customers and increase order value. We are working on displaying an approaching promotion and nudging customers into adding one more product to take advantage of it. The starting point is showing the threshold for free shipping and how much is left to unlock the promotion.

refinement

Omnichannel purchase history

Customers want to shop, wear and live your brand, regardless of the channel. Thanks to NewStore, it is easily possible to connect store, web, and app in a single seamless omnichannel experience. We are working on displaying any purchase in the Shopping App. So, your customers will always have all their details at hand.

major feature

Advanced App Extensions (foundations)

App Extensions provide essential extensibility to your app. They enable displaying of web content and features, designed and developed by a brand, in the native app. For example, a custom appointment booking system. Now, we want to push the concept even further by allowing communication between the app and the web view. Thus, trigger native app functionalities from an App Extension.

major feature

Gallery on PLV (iOS)

As part of the Lister View Redesign, we will work on adding a new feature to the PLV: Image Gallery. This feature will expose the same gallery of images found on the PDV on the Lister View. Users will be able to check product images faster and browse through your catalog better to find the best product to purchase.

major feature

Color Swatches on PLV (iOS)

As part of the Lister View Redesign, we will work on adding a new feature to the PLV: Color Swatches. During our most recent usability tests, we often got a comment about not having swatches on the PLP and that it would be nice to be able to see if there are more colors of an item.

major feature

Brand Stories

Brand Stories is a new feature, consisting of a single element that can be placed on the home wall. A Brand Story can contain multiple ‘pages’ that users can swipe through. Every page can have a different copy, image or video, and link to a different view of the app. The Brand Stories can be created in Studio through a new manager.

refinement

Track & Trace on Order History

The native Order History is the perfect view for users to monitor their purchases. When an order is shipped, customers want to track their package. We will work to link orders to the Track & Trace URL provided by the postal service. So, customers can follow their orders to the doorstep entirely via the app.

major feature

Remember Last Size

The intention of this feature is to take another step in automating the process of buying products from the app. By remembering the sizes a customer has previously selected, we can take away a step in the buying process.

More projects from last year. 📲

refinement

Product grid cell improvements

As part of the Lister View Redesign, we will work on some improvements to the grid cell on the PLV. This means that the favorite button can be placed in every corner of the product image and the product details - title, price, and labels - can be aligned on the left or right. All this to provide better customization to your app.

studio

Push notification statistics

The Notification Manager in Studio is a great tool to reach out to your customers. To make sure you can create even better and more effective push notifications, we will add some statistics to the notifications manager in Studio. This can help you analyse which notifications perform best and learn from that.

refinement

Payment Methods Express Checkout (iOS)

Since we developed the iOS Express Checkout that is used for buying a product in a store, we have only supported Apple Pay as a payment method. We will now add all other payment options to the express checkout. We have worked on this for Android during our previous product development cycle, and will now implement it in a similar way on iOS.

studio

Alerts for broken product link

We are constantly trying to make Studio smarter. Right now, we don’t have any indication in Studio that notifies you when a product link is ‘broken’. We will work on an email alerting system that automatically checks your product links and will send you an email with an overview. This way we can let you know something is not working and you can act accordingly to make sure lookbooks or categories do not appear empty.

major feature

Android Account Onboarding

Having an account in the Shopping App comes with a lot of benefits, both for you as a brand and for your consumers. With an account you can keep track of your purchases, check out faster, and use a membership card, for example. The account onboarding has been around on iOS for a long time, and we are finally bringing it to Android. This will give you that extra option to nudge your customers to create an account.

studio

Transcoding video

We will work on a small improvement in the way we transcode videos in NewStore Studio. Some of the managers have already been worked on, but there is some small left-over work for push messages and home merchandise. This refinement will allow for more video formats to be uploaded.

refinements

Order status refinements

We worked on some small improvements for the order statuses in the order history view. This includes some stability issues and updating the color coding of the different statuses to be more accurate.

major feature

Generational Cache

Instead of relying on a synchronised cache as we do right now, we want to move over to a generational cache system, where the cache can be updated constantly. The goal of this project is to cache more products while spreading the load of fetching products to cache over the day. We can later use this to cache content like walls and lookbooks from Studio.

refinement

End-to-end tests

We want to improve the confidence in our codebase by adding a new layer of tests on the integration level. Right now, we rely mostly on unit tests. While the test coverage is good and the tests run fast, it doesn’t necessarily protect us from any errors introduced when integrating the various units. The goal of this project is to build a maintainable and effective set of end-to-end tests.

studio

Refactor Calendar Component

The current calendar component in Studio is based on guessing a user’s local time. When scheduling content we ask you to select a timezone. In the current setup we do some work to ‘fight’ the calendar component which wants to display the scheduled content relevant to the user’s local time, instead of the timezone it is scheduled in. By refactoring the code we can solve this issue in a proper way.

studio

Branded Media Manager

Previously we improved splash and account images, which now can be localised. Now, we identified some usability issues since the features live inside the ‘App Settings’ manager and it is hard to expand them. Therefore, we will work to migrate the existing functionality over to a new manager, where it is scalable for the future. With this we will also be able to improve usability of the current setup.

refinement

Migrate Smartbanner

Last cycle we worked on moving away from DigitalOcean. Together with this we had to migrate several elements, such as the loyalty web components, API docs, buildbot, and the smartbanner. There is some leftover backend work to drop support for the old smartbanner backend.

major feature

Migrate to Room

During the development of the Android Membership Instant App, we have identified an issue in one of our currently used libraries. Due to this we need to migrate over to Google’s ‘Room’ library. This is a huge project which will take a couple of months to finish, but it will allow us to increase the number of Instant Apps in the future.

refinement

Dynamic Category Colors

Having a different color for a category item in the navigation bar is getting increasingly more popular, especially during sale period. It has turned out to be difficult to maintain for our service engineers, and requires an app update to work. To make this more dynamic for our team, we will work on a quick solution to manage the category color in such a way that it does not require an app update.

discovery

iBeacon – Proof of Concept

Understanding when a user is in a store is crucial to deliver a delightful and personal omnichannel shopping experience. With recent iBeacon technology we can use iOS devices and bluetooth for positioning instead of GPS. A Store Associate’s iPhone could double as an iBeacon and communicate with the Shopping App on a customer’s device. In this project, we will test the technology.

refinement

Native app review modal (Android)

Collecting app reviews from your users is a great way to understand them better and get a sense of how much they enjoy your app. We will work on implementing the native review modal on Android as we did before on iOS. This makes easier for users to submit a review in few taps without leaving the app.

major feature

Membership Instant App (Android)

Instant Apps are the equivalent of the iOS App Clips, which we have recently build on the platform. To support Android users we will work on building a first Instant App. The concept is the same as App Clips: try out a part of the app without having to download the full app from the Play Store. The first ‘type’ of Instant App we will build is the Membership Instant App, which nudges store visitors to create an account.

infrastructure

Scayle Integration

Last cycle we started with integrating this e-commerce system and identified some changes we needed to make on our platform. This cycle we will continue with this project and deliver the needed platform changes.

major feature

Express Checkout (Android)

This cycle we will focus on bringing some store features to Android. Last cycle we developed an express checkout for ‘Buy Online Pickup In-Store’ (aka BOPIS) on iOS. Now it is time to bring this feature to Android.

major feature

QR Code for In-store Pickup (Android)

Another store feature we are bringing to Android is the option to display a QR code on the Store Mode and Order History. This QR code can be used to pickup an order in-store. This feature will only be available for brands using both NewStore Associate App and Shopping App.

refinement

QR Code on Member Card

We will add support for displaying a QR code on the Member Card instead of a barcode. Additionally, it will be possible to have an email address that is associated with a customer account.

studio

Push Notification Archiving

We will add support for archiving older push notifications in NewStore Studio. Additionally, we will permanently remove archived items after an X amount of weeks.

refinement

Launch and account image localization

Recently we have added functionality in Studio to upload your launch and account images. This cycle we will include localisation options for these.

studio

Home Merchandise Manager Improvements

The new Home Merchandise Manager (HMM) is a huge step forward in how you can manage your app content. We have identified some improvements based on your feedback and our own testing. We will improve the change order mode per storefront, the localisation of both media and title of a row, and the loading speed.

refinement

Tags for Store Locator (Android)

When we built the Native Store Locator on Android, we initially designed the feature to have tags (aka Store Attributes or Annotations). These tags can be used to indicate official brand stores and resellers, or to display the type of products a store sells, such as ‘Kidswear’ or ‘Footwear’. These tags will be added to the Android Store Locator on the Store Overview and Detail View.

studio

Maintenance Mode per Storefront

A couple of months ago we added the Maintenance Mode feature to the App Settings view in NewStore Studio. This allows you to enable Maintenance Mode yourself without interference from the Highstreet Team. Up until now it has only been possible to enable the Maintenance Mode across all your storefronts. During this cycle we will improve this and add the possibility to enable the Maintenance Mode per storefront.

refinement

Filters on search (Android)

We have had the ability to filter the search results on iOS for a while now. Our goal for this cycle is to align the platforms and bring the functionality to Android. When using the search bar to find items, we display the results in a lister view. At the top, just below the search bar, we will add a filter & sort button that allows your customers to get an even more accurate result. This will help them find the items they want quicker and easier.

refinement

Apple Pay Coupon Codes

With the release of iOS 15 we are now able to support adding coupon codes while checking out using Apple Pay.

refinement

Video Lookbook Audio

During the initial implementation of Video Lookbooks we made the audio be triggered by the physical switch on an iPhone. Audio plays a huge role and it contributes to the engagement of the feature. We will therefore refine this feature to make audio a more prominent part of Video Lookbooks.

major feature

Core modularisation (iOS)

Throughout the years the iOS core codebase has grown from a single app with one use-case to multiple app(clip)s covering a range of use-cases. In order to be support this technically we've had to rearchitect the monolithic codebase into a modularised codebase, which comes with a range of added benefits for the overall platform.

architecture

Shopify Integration

The NewStore Shopping App currently supports various backends and DIY implementations. To this list we are adding support for Shopify. A large chunk of the project is already finished, but the final parts still require a cycle to complete.

infrastructure

Secure configurations

With this project we are going to make several security improvements to our configuration-repository. This repository contains all configuration settings for all the brands. We also like to take the opportunity to work on the general structure of how we work with the configurations of our apps.

infrastructure

Speed improvements (backend)

We recently planned some speed improvements for iOS, based on measurements we did earlier this year. We now planned this for Android and Backend as well to work on. This should make the platform and browsing experience of our apps faster.

updates

Constantly developing. Always improving.

We release new features or improvements every 2 weeks and we monitor over 30 apps on a daily basis. In this way, you focus on what matters for your brand, while we take care of the technology.

Kickstart your mobile strategy.
