TECH TALKS

Advanced state management patterns with JavaScript & MobX
How can we keep our applications maintainable when their complexity keep growing day by day? Isolated state management is the key. In this talk Michel Weststrate will explain how to isolate state from things like the user interface or making network request. This makes it possible to test routing and application life-cycle without needing (simulated / mocked) browsers. It enables compartmentalizing different parts of your application domain and business logic for easy multi team development. We will discuss patterns to build user interfaces without state or complex life cycle hooks. Patterns to make network request without race conditions. When your state is well controlled and managed, changes are cheap.

About Michel Weststrate:

Michel is a full-stack lead developer at Mendix. A company that drives digital innovation in large enterprises in partnership with companies like Microsoft, Amazon, IBM and Capgemini. As author of MobX he tries to make React and reactive programming accessible for anyone that just wants to get things done.

Building Event-Driven Serverless Applications
We built event-driven user interfaces for decades. What about bringing the same approach to mobile, web, and IoT backend applications? You have to understand how data flows and what is the propagation of changes, using reactive programming techniques. You can focus on the core functionalities to build and the relationships among the resources you use. Your application behaves similarly to a “spreadsheet”, where depending resources are updated automatically when something “happens”, and is decomposed into scalable microservices without having to manage the infrastructure. The resulting architecture is efficient and cost effective to run on AWS and managing availability, scalability and security becomes part of the implementation itself.

About Danilo Poccia:

Danilo is Technical Evangelist at Amazon Web Services and works with startups and enterprises to develop / migrate their IT solutions on the cloud. In his role, he uses this experience to help customers bringing their ideas to life using the AWS platform, focusing on technical and business impact of mobile and data analytics. Danilo works with customers throughout Europe and is a frequent speaker at public events and technical workshops.
